FedEx packages dumped and found in Aberdeen woods

A FedEx employee is no longer providing services after a 18 FedEx packages were dumped in a wooded area in Aberdeen.

On Aug. 9, a local business owner was pulling into his business, at the intersection of Highway 211 and E. Indiana Ave., when he saw two boxes near the woods on the property.

The business owner, who asked to be anonymous, thought the boxes were trash that may have blown in the woods. When he went to retrieve the boxes, he realized they were not empty.

He saw that the box was addressed to Forest Creek Golf Club. After calling Forest Creek and telling them they could retrieve their packages, the man noticed more packages throughout the area.

“I realized there was a big issue, so I called Forest Creek and told them I couldn’t give them their packages.” He then called the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

After Moore County Sheriff’s Department investigated the area, they called FedEx. FedEx came with a representative and a trailer to collect the packages.

The packages included high-value items for businesses along with residential packages. Forest Creek Golf Club and Hickory Tavern were among those businesses. Sandhills Sentinel reached out to both companies but was unable to receive a comment.

The packages were tracked back to the FedEx ground facility out of Raeford and were narrowed down to two trucks, according to the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.

“We are working closely with FedEx; we are in contact with them regularly regarding the case,” said Moore County Sheriff’s Department. “This is the only dump site that we are aware of, and if there are more, they have not been reported.”

FedEx would not answer questions Sandhills Sentinel had but released a statement.

“This incident is completely unacceptable and contrary to our commitment to treating millions of customers’ packages each day with the utmost care,” said FedEx. “Shipments were collected and delivered to their intended recipients where possible. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation and can confirm the individual involved is no longer providing service on behalf of FedEx Ground. Customers with questions or concerns about their shipments are encouraged to visit fedex.com for updates.”

This is an ongoing investigation and a developing story.
