A two-alarm house fire left a West End woman without a home on Saturday.
The fire was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m. down a private road named Thomas Place, which is off Carthage Road.
Seven Lakes Fire was first on scene and reported the house was already fully engulfed with flames going through the roof. Units from across Moore County were quickly dispatched to assist fighting the fire.
Officials tell Sandhills Sentinel the cause of the fire has not been determined but appears to have started near the back of the house and quickly spread to other areas including the basement.
Due to possible danger of the floor collapsing, crews could only attack the fire from the exterior and were unable to save the structure. Once the fire was contained above ground, it was determined the safest action would be to let the basement burn itself out.
The property owner was not home at the time of the fire, and one of three cats has been accounted for at the time of publication.
Responding to the blaze were fire units with Seven Lakes, West End, Eastwood, Carthage, Pinehurst, Eagle Springs, Whispering Pines. N.C. Forest Service, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and Moore County Public Safety also responded.
