Kathy Mason, R.D., CSSD, recently joined FirstHealth’s Diabetes and Nutrition Education Center as a Registered Dietitian. She is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators with more than 30 years of experience in the field of Nutrition and Fitness. At FirstHealth, Mason counsels patients about the role of nutrition in managing diabetes and other chronic conditions, including obesity and heart disease.

“Many people simply don’t know where to start when they decide to take an active role to manage their health conditions,” she says. “As a team, I, and other Dietitians here, want people to know that they are able to make lifestyle changes to improve their health and feel better. We’re here to show them how, and encourage and support them along the way.”

Mason says that interacting with both children and adults one-on-one and teaching classes is one of the most rewarding parts of her work.

Previously, Mason worked at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas and for the U.S. Army at Fort Lee, Va. Her work has focused on health promotion and disease prevention with adults and children, as well as developing classes on a variety of topics. She lives in Seven Lakes.
