More than 650 Fort Bragg paratroopers were deployed Wednesday morning to the U.S. Central Command area of operations in Iraq as part of the Immediate Response Force.

“Paratroopers from 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division were activated and deployed in response to the increased threat levels against U.S. personnel and facilities,” said the 82nd Airborne Division. “This is why we exist. Your Paratroopers have trained and prepared for events like these since their arrival to the All American Division, and they are trained and ready to answer the nation’s call.”

U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), Fort Bragg’s Congressman, released the following statement regarding the deployment.

“When the president dials 9-1-1, Fort Bragg answers the call,” said Hudson. “Renee and I are praying for these paratroopers and their safe return home, for their families, and for all of America’s men and women in uniform.”
