Four condos destroyed in Pinehurst fire

A fire consumed two condos, caused minor damage to a third condo, and a fourth condo suffered water damage on Saturday, March 26, at St. Andrews Condominiums in Pinehurst. First responders received the call for a fire around 4 p.m., and soon over a dozen Moore and Cumberland County fire and rescue departments were on the scene battling the blaze.

The fire, which took place on Chevy Chase Lane off N.C. 5, engulfed the building in fewer than thirty minutes.

Though no one was harmed in the fire, firefighters worked for over an hour to control and extinguish the roaring flames.

Residents and nearby golfers alike gathered around the unit to watch the ongoing struggle with the inferno on a windy day. Flames were visible from all sides of the building and through the roof.

“The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but based on witness interviews, it started on the exterior of the building,” said Pinehurst Fire Chief Carlton Cole. “The fire was driven by high winds, causing the rapid spread.”

The fire did not spread to any neighboring buildings.

Emergency units were out in full force, with responses from the Pinehurst Fire Department, Village of Pinehurst Police, Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Seven Lakes Emergency Response Mobile Air Unit, West End Fire Department, Seven Lakes Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Pinebluff Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department, and Fort Bragg Fire Department.
