Grunts finish third year of winter sports

In their third year of varsity basketball, Fr. Vincent Capodanno High School had a 16-game season.

The Lady Grunts ended their season 5-16. Head coach Kait Brinker saw tremendous player development over the season. “This team is really well postured to make big gains next year,” said Brinker. “Although we are losing graduating senior Isabelle Klotz, our core is a group of talented sophomores.”

The boys had a 3-16 season. Like with the girls, the boys made tremendous strides throughout the season. “We played competitively against some fairly tough teams,” said head coach Joe Skillman, “I’m really proud of what these boys have accomplished in terms of building a basketball legacy for Capodanno High School.” The boys will be losing graduating seniors Ryan Wooten, Cole Johnson, and Zack Oates but will retain a lot of developing talent going into next year.

After wrapping up their final game on Feb. 3, the Grunts immediately transitioned to track and field in preparation for their first scheduled meet at Jordan-Matthews High School in Siler City. “Our student-athletes never stop. We’re a small school and many of our kids are year-round, all-sport athletes. It keeps them in good condition,” said head track and field coach Joshe Raetz.
