Capodanno partners with others to form new conference

For a small but growing school like Father Vincent Capodanno High School, it’s “all hands on deck” when it comes to sports. Just ask senior Cole Johnson, who’s been an all-sports athlete for the Grunts for the two years that Capodanno has been offering a full three seasons of sports.

“I work at Lowe’s grocery, I’m active in scouts (Cole will receive his Eagle Scout Award this spring), and I play football, basketball and run track for the Capodanno. It’s a lot on my plate, but it’s been a great high school experience for me,” said Cole. He plans to attend N.C. State and major in engineering in the fall.

This past Thursday, Jan. 26, Capodanno High School honored their basketball seniors when they hosted the boys from Village Christian Academy in Fayetteville and the girls from Sandhills Classical Christian School of Whispering Pines.

“It’s been another challenging and rewarding season for us,” said senior Isabelle Klotz. “We continue to grow, and we’ve brought in some great coaches. To have almost a 20 game season this year was a huge step forward for our program.” Isabelle has been accepted to multiple division I SEC schools and is still deciding which option to pursue a nursing program in the fall.

In addition to Cole and Isabelle, other seniors include Ryan Wooten, who averaged 25 points per game this season and plans on attending Northern Illinois University, and Zachary Oates, who plans on attending High Point University and majoring in business administration.

Capodanno High School, located in Vass, will compete this spring in local track and field meets and is always open to transfer students or new recruits.
