Hamlet has cancelled their 4th of July fireworks over concerns about a possible gang retaliation. This is all stemming from Hamlet’s Police Department’s investigation into a homicide. Tierrell Martin, 20, of Dobbins Heights was a victim of a shooting last Wednesday morning at approximately 12:15 in the parking lot of the Circle B convenience store on N.C. 177 in Hamlet, NC.
Hamlet Police are actively looking for a suspect in the homicide investigation. Investigators initially charged one man in the shooting; however, video evidence proved he was not the shooter, and he was released from custody. Authorities are offering a $500.00 reward for information that leads to a conviction in the shooting.
People have called the Richmond County Crime Stoppers and police investigators making threats, according to the Richmond County Daily Journal, and the rumors of payback are thought to be related to gang activity. The police are confident the treat of violence is real, so the city has cancelled their fireworks to keep the community safe.
