Head-on collision claims life

A head-on collision near Vass claimed the life of a woman on Wednesday. The accident between a pickup truck and a box truck occurred on Lobelia Road.

First responders closed Lobelia Road between McPherson Road and McGill Road around 10:30 a.m.

According to Cypress Pointe Fire Chief Mike Cameron, the driver of a Ford 150 truck was pronounced dead on the scene after Crains Creek Fire Department and emergency services extricated her from the vehicle. The pickup truck had extensive front-end damage.

A landing zone for two helicopters was set up at nearby Crains Creek Fire Department. The teenage male passenger of the pickup truck was flown to an area trauma center. His condition is unknown at this time.

The accident left the box truck on its side, and the driver and passenger suffered minor injuries.

Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, Moore County Public Safety, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol were also on scene assisting.
