According to a news release from the Hamlet Police Department, the police are actively looking for a suspect in a homicide. The murder occurred inside the city at the north side Circle B Convenience Store on N.C. 177. Authorities initially charged one man in the shooting; however, video evidence proved he was not the shooter, and he was released from custody.
At the time of this report, the deceased family members had not been notified; therefore, the name of the victim has not been released yet. The body was taken to Chapel Hill for an autopsy, so authorities can learn more to aid in their investigation.
