Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields credits a K-9 for aiding in the successful search of a missing elderly woman suffering from a cognitive disorder.
The woman was reported missing from her home in Carthage just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, said Fields in a statement on social media.
Deputy handler Kevin Dean and K-9 ROKI were called to the scene in rainy weather.
“Within 40 minutes from the time deputies arrived on scene, K-9 ROKI ran a successful track that led to the victim being found in a nearby field,” said Fields. “This was a great effort by all Deputies involved and the victim was returned to her family safe and secure.”
Dean has worked with other K-9s in the past while employed with the Southern Pines Police Department and has received awards for searching out drugs and weapons.
