A local boy and his family recently dropped by the Southern Pines Police Department with a surprise thank you gift.

Kamdyn Koekkoek, age 9, had a mission project to complete for The First Baptist Church, so Kamdyn chose the police department because they “protect us from bad guys”.

For his project, Kamdyn made police blessing bags for 20 officers with appreciation letters.  In addition to the blessing bags, Kamdyn made a poster board collage for the department.

“I want the officers to be happy and know that I care about what they do,” Kamdyn wrote on his poster board project.

The poster board included a letter, a dear hero message,  a picture of the outside Southern Pines Police Department building, and pictures of Kamdyn creating his project.

Kamdyn and his family also gave the department a basket full of needed items such as pens, notebooks, batteries, kleenex, hand sanitizer, and treats.

Southern Pines Police Chief Temme wrote on social media thanking Kamdyn and his family for “stopping by with their special thank you gift for the department.”
