A motorcycle accident on Valley View Road in Southern Pines resulted in the driver, a Southern Pines resident, being airlifted Thursday evening.

Emergency crews were paged around 7 p.m. to a single-vehicle accident on Valley View Road just prior to the May Street intersection. The 48-year-old male driver of the BMW motorcycle was lying in the middle of the road when the first responders arrived on the scene. The motorcycle was lying on side of the road not far from the victim.

Due to the extensive injuries, a helicopter was called to transport the victim to a trauma center. Aberdeen Fire & Rescue set up a landing zone at the Morganton Road ballfield.  EMS transported the victim to the landing zone to meet the helicopter.

Valley View Road was completed shutdown while emergency crews worked and was reopened after about 30 minutes. The NC State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Responding to the accident were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and NC State Highway Patrol.
