Man arrested after fleeing police, discarding gun

A Southern Pines man is behind bars under a $225,000 secured bond facing several charges after being arrested on Dec. 20, said Southern Pines Police Department in a news release.

Authorities say 23-year-old Tyquan Graham fled from officers in his vehicle when they attempted to pull him over because he had outstanding arrest warrants and no driver’s license.

While Graham was fleeing the officers, he threw a gun out of the car, according to the police.

The officers were able to stop Graham and charge him with speeding to elude arrest, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting a public officer, reckless driving to endanger, aggressive driving and no operator’s license.

The suspect “was served with numerous outstanding Orders for Arrest for prior charges where he failed to appear in court: Possession of a Firearm by Felon (4 counts), Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance, Assault by Pointing a Gun, Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Property, Injury to Personal Property, Resisting a Public Officer and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.”

All defendants facing criminal charges are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
