Man dies in single-vehicle crash

A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a local man on Saturday. The accident happened near Vass on Union Church Road, between Joel Road and Vick Avenue, just before 9:30 p.m.

According to authorities on scene, Dustin McMillan, 35, of Carthage, was traveling toward Carthage when he lost control at a curve just past Joel Road. The Honda Civic left the road, clipping a power pole before crossing the road and overturning, leaving the car on its side off the road.

When emergency units arrived on scene, CPR was immediately started, but despite efforts of first responders, he was pronounced deceased.

Union Church Road was shut down around two hours while crews worked the scene.

Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.

Carthage Fire Department was dispatched to Union Pines High School to set up a landing zone for air care but later canceled.

This is the second fatal accident in less than a mile of each other in just under three months Sandhills Sentinel has reported.

Responding units were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Carthage Police Department and N.C. Highway Patrol.
