Man facing drug, weapon charges

A 49-year-old man from Raeford is facing seven charges after being arrested by Southern Pines Police Department during a traffic stop.

George Williams was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $125,000 secured bond after being charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon and resist, delay and obstruct a public officer.

“On December 1, 2022, members of the Southern Pines Police Department’s Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of W. New Hampshire Avenue for a revoked vehicle registration and insurance stop,” said Southern Pines Police Department in a press release. “Upon the officer’s approach of the vehicle, George Anthony Williams was immediately found to be in possession of marijuana. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of a concealed handgun, 13 grams of cocaine, 6.1 grams of marijuana, several items of drug paraphernalia and $724.00 in US Currency.”

The suspect has a hearing in Moore County court on Dec. 15 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
