A Taylortown wreck sent one driver to the hospital in critical condition on Monday morning. Just after 10 a.m., first responders were alerted to a two-vehicle collision at the busy intersection in front of Pinecroft Plaza on Highway 211.

According to authorities on scene, the wreck occurred when a large box truck smashed into the rear-end of a Toyota sedan. The crash caused extensive damage to the Toyota, resulting in deployed air bags, extreme damage to the vehicle’s frame, and shattered windows. The official cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.

The driver of the Toyota, an adult male, was transported to Moore Regional Hospital via ambulance for immediate treatment. His condition is currently unknown.

Both eastbound lanes of Highway 211 were shut down for over an hour while first responders worked to clear the refuse and conduct an investigation. The Pinehurst Fire Department was on scene directing traffic, which was rerouted down Ivey Lane and around Harris Teeter while the investigation was underway.
