Meet Moore People: Donnie Queen

Meet Moore People is a series dedicated to the people we meet each day but do not really know; people who make Moore County a great place to live and work.

Say “hello” to Donnie Queen.

When someone in the downtown Aberdeen area needs help, they call for Donnie Queen. He is easily found at the thrift store, A Treasure Alley on Main Street, owned by his mother, Pat Queen.

When Donnie isn’t at the family store or helping someone, he is walking downtown, offering to help, and on Sundays, he raises his hand at church when they ask for volunteers.

“He does so many jobs around town, some I don’t even know about,” Pat said.

Donnie is 58 and enjoys helping others, which is his life’s motto.

For years, Donnie assisted Maire Lomax, now deceased, with taking out her garbage and walking her to the grocery store. Once a week, she had him over for lunch, and she called him her angel. Lomax had lost both legs and had spinal problems.

“He helps The Bull Room ladies and over at the Hit Point Hobby Store and is going to work at the new pizza place across the street when it opens,” Pat said.

Visitors to the store bring Donnie gifts.

“A couple with a son who I didn’t even know wanted to know what to get him for Christmas,” Pat said. “They got him a gift card for Mason’s. He goes there every morning. They said he was a sweet man and just kind to everybody.”

Donnie worked at Thermal Metal for 16 years in maintenance and shipping.

Donnie and Pat have lived in Aberdeen for 25 years and have roots in Trinity, N.C. Donnie has three brothers. One is older and the twins are younger.
