The Met: Live in HD 2017-18 Season returns to the Sunrise Theater on October 7 with a new production of Bellini’s “Norma.” Directed by Sir David McVicar and conducted by Carlo Rizzi, it stars world acclaimed Sondra Radvanovsky. In addition to this production, the new season will show and additional nine live performances from the Met to audiences in over 70 countries and 2,000 theaters.
The season continues with Mozart’s full length German Opera “Die Zauberflote,” conducted by Met Music Director Emeritus James Levine. The Met premier of Ades’ “The Exterminating Angel” sung in English, and based on a screen play by Luis Bunuel and Louis Alcoriza for the 1962 Bunuel film follows in the season. Puccini’s dramatic tragedy “Tosca” performed in January is directed by Sir David McVicar and stars Kristine Opolais as Tosca, the heroine. Jonas Kauffmann performs as her lover Cavaradossi. Next to premiere is the comic gem, Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore. This dynamic season continues with Puccini’s classic “La Boheme” which is performed by an exciting young cast. Rossini’s “Semiramide,” which has not been staged at the Met in 25 years, arrives in March. Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte,” is set in Coney Island and features an ensemble cast including Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara. Verdi’s tragedy “Louisa Miller” starring Sonya Yoncheva and Placido Domindo will be seen for the first times since 2006. The 2017/18 season closes the Massenet’s “Cendrillon” based on the story of Cinderella and conducted by Bertrand de Billy. Cendrillon stars Joyce DeDonato and Alice Coote.
