Miniature golf groundbreaking held in Taylortown

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday in Taylortown for Wee Pines Miniature Golf.

Attended by officials for Taylortown, First Citizens Bank, and developer Marty McKenzie of the Olmsted Village Company, the site is near the intersection of Highway 211 and Central Park Avenue adjacent to First National Bank.

McKenzie has owned this property for decades and has been working toward a miniature golf course for several years.

Miniature Golf Solutions, based in Florida, is developing the course. They are responsible for some of America’s most successful miniature golf courses. The course will consist of two 18-hole courses.

Taylortown Mayor James Thompson addressed the crowd stating, “This course is going to be instrumental in the growth of Pinehurst and Moore County. We are very glad to be a part of this project.”

Nicole Dunstan of Olmsted Village Company told Sandhills Sentinel “how excited we are for this project to come fulfillment after several years.” She hopes everyone comes out to play Wee Pines Miniature Golf.

The ceremony with several local officials moving dirt with golf clubs closed the brief event.

The course is designed for all ages, from children to senior citizens, and will be fully handicapped accessible. It is hoped that Wee Pines will offer a recreational option for entire families at a cost that will not break the bank.

Plans include a snack bar, clubhouse, and various outings and tournaments. Plans are currently still being established, but McKenzie told the crowd, “Most likely ice cream and maybe even hot dogs will be part of the experience.”

Look for an opening in the spring of 2023.
