Moore County resident, Danny Joe Britt, was found deceased near Ellerbe this week after being missing for over a month.
Britt was first reported missing on June 15.
His family shared information on social media asking the community’s help locating him and said Britt was last seen at Circle B gas station in Eagle Springs at 10 a.m. He then traveled on Highway 211 toward Candor in his dad’s 1993 Mazda Miata.
His body was found in Richmond County between Ellerbe and Rockingham.
The Richmond County Daily Journal reported on Wednesday that “The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office located a body off of Sandhill Game Management Road between Ellerbe and Rockingham. A male was attempting to remove a catalytic converter from underneath a car and the jack collapsed, causing the car to pin the man. It appears that the man had been stuck there for several weeks, according to Detective Jay Childers with the Criminal Investigation Division in an email.”
Chief Deputy Richard Maness from the Moore County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Sandhills Sentinel it was Britt’s body, and the next of kin was notified.
According to Britt’s Facebook page, he was self-employed and was a graduate of Pinecrest High School.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department.
