Board of Education discusses questionable books

The Moore County Board of Education Monday moved to fill the vacancy left by the death of Bruce Cunningham.

Cunningham passed away unexpectedly last month while on vacation in Ireland.

For the next two weeks, the school board will take applications from Moore County residents interested in finishing Cunningham’s term, which will expire December 2020.

There is no statue for filling a vacancy, but the district’s attorney advised against leaving the seat vacant.

Interested community members can submit a resume and letter stating why they are interested in the position, and what they would contribute to the board via email to [email protected] or by mail to the Moore County Schools Central Office at P.O. Box 1180, Carthage, NC 28327.

Cunningham represented the 5th district which consists of Aberdeen, Pinebluff, and portions of Southern Pines. Any applicant will need to reside in those areas.

The board is scheduled to open applications August 20, but no date has been set for the appointment.
