Authorities say a girl was bitten by a fox on Saturday. The girl was walking her dog in Seven Lakes North when a fox approached her, according to a Monday advisory from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. The fox bit the girl on her foot before running away.

Officials don’t know if the fox is rabid because it hasn’t been captured.

Sheriff Fields “urges citizens to be vigilant in the protection of their own pets in the Seven Lakes area of the county.”

This is the second time in just over two weeks the sheriff’s department is urging residents and pet owners to be on alert.

A case of rabies was confirmed in the Westmoore area of the county on Highway 705, near Adams Road, when a child was scratched and bitten by a cat. When Moore County Sheriff’s Office captured the feral cat “it began to exhibit signs of distress and quickly expired.”

Please call the sheriff’s office if you “see a fox or any other wildlife that exhibits suspicious behavior in the Seven Lakes area” or any other area of the county. You may contact them at 910-947-2858.
