Motorcyclist airlifted after Midland road crash

A man was airlifted after crashing his motorcycle on Midland Road in Southern Pines Saturday just after 3 p.m. 

The man was traveling on Midland Road, heading toward downtown, when he lost control and went into the median. The motorcycle crashed into a tree before coming to rest near the intersection with Leak Street.

Upon arrival of emergency crews, the rider was up and walking around. Not long after, EMS determined the man had injuries requiring his transport to a trauma center, and a medevac helicopter was called.

A landing zone was set up at Memorial Park in Southern Pines, and the patient was airlifted from that location. His condition is unknown at this time. Southern Pines Police is investigating the exact cause of the accident.
