State treasurer encourages N.C. residents to take part in National Unclaimed Property Day

The N.C. Department of Revenue has scheduled a series of webinars for the public on coronavirus-related tax relief and the agency’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinars will begin on Wednesday, May 13, and registration is required. The 2019 state tax filing deadline for individual, corporate, and franchise taxes was moved to July 15, 2020 to mirror the federal Internal Revenue Service deadline.

“We have a number of changes to tax laws and services as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and these webinars are an excellent way for taxpayers to understand the impacts of those changes,” said Secretary of Revenue Ronald G. Penny. “The Department of Revenue is open and here to help taxpayers during this unprecedented time.”

Currently, there are five webinars scheduled through June 2. The webinars will cover a range of topics that include:

•    Extensions to file and pay certain taxes
•    Available services and support
•    Affected tax schedules
•    Options for taxpayers who cannot pay by July 15
