Newly-created scholarship opens for Moore County students

A new scholarship program was recently created to honor a former Richmond County student.

The Craven Apiary Foundation was created to honor and remember Candace Craven and her love for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

Candace passed away Sept. 25, 2022. She was a 2007 graduate of Richmond Senior High and a 2012 graduate of UNC Wilmington, where she majored in mathematics, biology and chemistry. She went on to earn a Certificate of Data Analytics from the University of Denver in 2020.

Each year, two scholarships will be awarded to Moore and Richmond County female students who wish to pursue advanced studies in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The 2023 Craven Apiary Scholarship application opens March 1 and runs until March 31. Additional information, including eligibility and scholarship criteria, can be found here.

The foundation also offers the following free services to all Moore and Richmond County students, year-round: collegiate/scholarship essay review; resume review; interview preparation sessions. For those interested in the additional services offered, please contact the foundation via website form.
