School officials and students broke ground on renovations at North Moore High School Friday.
The school, which opened in 1965, is undergoing a 38,963 square foot expansion that includes six classrooms, four science labs, classroom space for special needs students, auxiliary gym, wrestling room, and renovated lockers, according to Moore County Schools.
“Above all, in an effort to enhance security, an enclosed corridor will connect the current and new auxiliary gymnasiums to the front administration building, and there will be improved accessibility to accommodate all individuals,” said the school district on social media.
Currently, the school has modular classrooms, and students who take part in athletics have to travel to other Moore County Schools to use their facilities.
The upgrades are estimated to cost $15.5 million and not to exceed $16.5 million.
