Bernice Jewell Davis Cockman 96, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Robbins First Baptist Church, where she was a member, conducted by the Reverend Danny Meetze. The family will receive friends following the service.

Bernice was born in Montgomery County, into a large family.  She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. Bernice is remembered for being an encourager, resourceful and creative person.  She used her talents in sewing, crochet, and cooking.  Her biscuits won a 4 H award.  Bernice had a “green thumb” and could grow anything in her garden.  She enjoyed family history and liked to keep up with genealogy.  Bernice was a member of the Harris Day Circle at her church, enjoying all their activities.  She was a daughter of the late Alsey and Daphne Sheffield Davis and was preceded in death by her husband: William Fletcher Cockman; son: Larry Cockman; siblings: Jimmy Davis, Frances Davis, Miriam Davis, Foster Davis, Alton Davis, Elva Davis Osborne, Dossie Davis, Emery Davis, Harold Davis.  

Bernice is survived by daughters: Ruby Jones, Emily Hazelwood and husband Wayne; grandchildren: Molly Upchurch and husband Brad, Stacy Boxell and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren: Kyndall, Carter, Leona; sister: Rachel Brewer, sisters in law: Martha Davis, Emily Davis; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be made to Robbins First Baptist Church, 651 E Hemp Street, Robbins, NC 27325.
