Born July 2, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri, Edward James Lavin, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 15, 2018 in Southern Pines, NC.  He was proceeded in death by his parents, Marian and Edward Lavin and his sister, Gwen Greenbank.

Ed graduated from De Andres High School in St. Louis where he played basketball on their state championship team.  After graduation he attended William Jewell College and Hannibal La Grange College on basketball scholarships.  Following college he proudly served in the Marine Corps for three years where he was stationed in Japan.

In 1962. he married the love of his life Jane Ostoin.  Together they had four children: Cheryl (Richard) Joyner, Ed Lavin (Steph Lehman), Mark Lavin (Scott Culpepper) and Tim Lavin (Brian Murphy), two grandchildren:  Rob (Michelle) Joyner and Courtney Joyner, and two great grandchildren: Ames Joyner and Joules Joyner.

Ed had a career lasting more than 40 years in various sales and marketing positions including owning his own company, Mid South Marketing. He loved to cook, entertain, share stories and tell jokes.  Always the life of the party, he will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Visitation will be held at Boles Funeral Home on Monday, February 19 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Way of Moore County, P.O. Box 207, Southern Pines, NC 28388.
