Emil “Tony” Ciccoretti passed away at home on March 3, 2018. Born in Detroit in 1927, he was the son of Loreto and Maria (Pia) Ciccoritti. He graduated from Michigan State College and worked at Ford Motor Company before becoming a teacher in East Detroit. He earned a Masters and a Doctorate in Education from Wayne State University.

Emil was a loved and respected educator. His work benefitted thousands of East Detroit schoolchildren over his thirty-year career. He served as a teacher, elementary school principal, and assistant superintendent. He married a fellow teacher, MaryAnn.

At retirement, knowing his love of golf, Emil’s colleagues gave him a gift: a trip to Pinehurst Resort. He and MaryAnn liked Pinehurst. So much so, they moved there in 1996 after she retired.

Emil was devoted to his church and its people. He served as an usher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinehurst. He was actively involved in the Knights of Columbus, including serving as Grand Knight.

He is survived by his well-loved family: his wife of 55 years, MaryAnn; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Karen of Walloon Lake, Michigan, and Eric and Patty of Arlington, Virginia; and his four grandchildren, Dylan Alan, Mia, Quinn, and Charles. His kindness, love, and generosity continue within each of them.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 4:00-6:00PM at Boles Funeral Home, 35 Parker Lane, Pinehurst. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:00PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following at St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations be made to the San Juan Diego Church, a mission of Sacred Heart Church, 300 Dundee Road, Pinehurst, NC, 28374.
