Alice Joy Barber, 87, saw the face of her Lord on Thursday, December 19, 2019.

Alice was born in Hattiesburg Mississippi to the late George and Adgie Davis on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1932.  After the death of her father, her Mother moved back to North Carolina and later married Clyde Nall.

On September 21, 1952 Alice married the love of her life, James Barber.  While in the military, Alice & James lived in Alaska, Florida and Goldsboro.  After his discharge from the Air Force in 1968, the couple resided in Greensboro and Hamlet before settling back home in Whispering Pines.

Alice was pre-deceased by her husband, James, her sisters Helen Brewer, Mickey Pittman, and Lorraine Moore, brothers Harold Davis, Charles Davis, Howard Davis and AC Davis.  She is survived by her sister Mary Elizabeth Potts of Asheboro as well as many nieces and nephews.

Alice loved the Lord, finding great joy in studying His word and leading Bible Studies and her faith never wavered. Alice had a great love for many things, and she gave her whole heart in everything she did. She was a wonderful seamstress and applied love to each stitch she sewed. She made clothes for many of her nieces when they were growing up. Alice loved gardening and up to a few years ago, grew vegetables in a small garden in her back yard. The life she lived is one we should all aspire to have. A life of love, joy, kindness, and faith. A life well lived.

The family would like to thank the staff of Elmcroft of Southern Pines, the staff of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital & the staff of FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care for their kindness to our beloved Alice.

Alice will be laid to rest beside her beloved James.  Graveside services will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church 1838 Bethlehem Church Rd Carthage NC 28327 at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 22 with Rev. Dr. Ron Chaney presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cemetery Fund at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
