Bernard Garrett Sexton, age 95, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 at his residence.

Bernard was born in Richmond County on November 15, 1924 to William S. and Bina Hunsucker Sexton. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army, where he served during World War II. He loved his church, playing his guitar, gardening, and loved the NC mountains.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kaci Pritchard. He is survived by his wife, Essie Haywood Sexton of the home; daughter, Ruby Pritchard and husband, Bruce of West End; son, Bradley Eugene Sexton and wife, Bea of Candor; sister, Aldena Hamilton and husband, Bruce of Troy; brother, Calvin Sexton and wife, Janice of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The body will lie in state from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 4, at Phillips Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, at Main Street Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Chris Mabe officiating.
