Bracy Lee Chavis Sr., age 86, of Vass, went to be with the Lord on Friday June 8, 2018 at home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Bracy was born on April 13, 1932 in Robeson County to Cloyd and Sarah Margaret Chavis. Bracy worked on the family farm as a young man. In 1951 Bracy married Grace Ann Hunt, who would be his loving wife and lifelong companion for 67 years. He was employed with Southern States for 10 years. In 1962 Bracy went to work as a lineman for Line Construction and continued that line of work for 30 years until his retirement. Bracy was a loving father and husband who worked hard to provide for his family. Bracy was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was as friendly a person as you would ever meet with an engaging personality who “never met a stranger”. Bracy was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather of 17 children, great grandfather of 23 children, great-great grandfather of 3 children, and friend to everyone he met.
He is loved and survived by his loving wife, Grace Chavis; children Carlene Saldana, Kathy Chavis, Gail Morgan, and Tony Chavis; sisters Mattie Oxendine and Louise Hammond; brother Bobby Chavis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd and Sarah Margaret Chavis; sister Annie Sue Sleigh; brothers Billy, Junior, Mitchell, Ted and Harold Chavis; sons Bracy Wayne and Cloyd Lynn Chavis; great grandson Omar; grand daughters Kina, Shantana, and Dawn.
A Wake will be held Friday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave. Southern Pines, NC 28387. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the same location.
