Obituary for Candace Leigh Craven

Candace Leigh Craven shared her light with everyone around her for almost 33 years. On Sunday, September 25, 2022, she passed away in her home in Hendersonville, NC.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Pine Grove Farm, 214 Freeman Way, Aberdeen, NC from 3 pm until 6 pm.

Candace was born in Pinehurst, NC on October 4, 1989 to Nina Williams and the late Thomas Harold Craven Jr.

In addition to her mother (Donnie), she is survived by sisters, Courtney Eury (Craig) of Pinehurst NC and Hannah Craven (Josh) of Tampa FL. She also leaves behind her only nephew, Brodhi Craven Eury and her beloved fur babies Binx (kitty) and Rufio (doggo).

During her time here, she went by many names – Sisty, Aunt Cannis, Candy Cane, daughter, friend, cousin, niece, sister in law, granddaughter. She wore each of those names with fierce loyalty and love. She had quick wit, impeccable humor and amazing taste in music. She could dance with the best of them and bake better than anyone. She made stuffies for her BFF Brodhi and blankets for her people. She lived a life of color – never dull. She was a warrior, a fighter and her absence has left a gaping hole in so many of our hearts.

As time goes on, I hope that you will help me in honoring and remembering Candace and her light every year. Reach out to those that you love or that are on your mind. Lend a helping hand or share your energy to those that may need it. Take a hike, pet a dog, save a turtle, sunbathe on a rock, swim in the ocean or dance your heart out. Sing songs incredibly loud and off key, drink so much Dunkin Donuts that you feel dizzy, play board games….or heck, any game, read in a hammock or visit a brewery. Drink hot tea or eat sushi, bake a pie…maybe take a tequila shot (but you have to have a lime). Get a tattoo or wear a funky outfit with all the colors, wear boots, berks or chacos.

Just remember her, whatever you choose, say her name and tell a story. Keep her memory and vibrant light shining. For that, I know that we will carry her forever and she will never be alone.
