Carolyn Fryer Burgan, age 75, of Vass-Woodlake, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, with her family by her side.
Carolyn was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 22, 1944 to the late Edward Vincent Fryer, Jr and Anna Katherine Fryer. In addition, to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, CW4 Elmer Joseph Burgan, U.S. Army (ret.).
She traveled the world as an Army wife and built a career in Armed Forces recreation by serving military personnel and their families. She even received a lifetime service award from the Armed Forces Recreation Society. When she retired, she continued to serve others by volunteering in her community. She was always the first to offer a hug or lend a hand. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Elmer Joseph Burgan of Oregon and Heidi Burgan Thomes (Chris) of Virginia; sister, Beverly Fryer Sullivan; brother, Edward Vincent Fryer; grandchildren, Cassidy, Katie, Abbie and Gracie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Carolyn Burgan to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
