Obituary for Catherine Black

Catherine “Jill” Black, 93, formerly of West End, NC passed away peacefully on June 22, 2020 in Ohio.

Jill was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1926 to the late Leonard and Catherine Dearden Snyder.

Jill was an eternal optimist; she always managed to see hidden beauty or find the best in everything and everyone.  She was very creative and was an incredibly talented oil painter.  Early in her working career she worked in advertising.  After moving to NC, she worked for The Golf Hall of Fame, Midland Crafters, and Highland Farms.  She cherished the years she and Currie shared on the farm she fondly called “The Ponderosa.”  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and a cherished friend to many.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 2:00PM at Culdee Presbyterian Church, 916 NC -73, West End, NC 27376.  There will be a graveside committal and reception following.  COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.

In addition to her parents, Jill was preceded in death by her husband Hughie McKenzie “Currie” Black; her first husband and father of her children, Harry K. Tucker, Jr; her son Harry K. Tucker, III; and her sister Louise Duffy Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son Peter Tucker (wife Dania) and her grandson Joshua Tucker. She is also survived by her niece Mikel Duffy and nephew Jim Duffy (wife Peg) both of Ohio, who graciously cared for her during her final years.  She is survived by numerous other close family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests you make a donation in Jill’s name to your favorite charity.
