David MacDonald Johnstone of Pinehurst, NC died January 17, 2020, at the age of 87.  Dave was originally from Queens, New York.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Patricia, five children, 12 grandchildren and one great grandson, Chris Johnstone (Kristin and their children Katie, Riley, Caroline), Kelly Rader (Bill and their children Bill, Amy and Megan),  Steve Johnstone (Cheryl and their children Ben and Matthew), Kim Brey (and her children Allen and Shelly)  Kathleen Johnstone (Kent Franks and their children Hannah and Noah) and great grandchild Austin Brey, son of Allen/Shelly.  Dave was preceded in death by his brother Tony, sister Priscilla Ames and her daughter Gwen, his niece.  He is also survived by sister in law Joan Johnstone and several nieces and nephews. 

Dave was a veteran in the United States Marine Corp and spent his career as a sales & marketing executive in the appliance industry.  He also served as the President of the Mens New Jersey State Golf Association.  Golf was his passion and the sport had so many wonderful influences on his life.  Dave first saw his wife Pat in the Long Island Golfer magazine. They were both mentioned in the same issue. He wasted no time asking Pat out on a date,  and three months later they were engaged and married within a year.  They were happily married for 59 years.  Dave and Pat won five Metropolitan Husband and Wife Golf Championships. During their marriage they belonged to Montclair Golf Club in New Jersey, The Country Club at Muirfield in Dublin OH and Pinehurst Country Club. Dave retired in 1998 and enjoyed many rounds of golf in retirement with his mens group in Pinehurst. In addition to golf, Dave enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Center. 

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 11AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst, NC with Father John Forbes presiding. The family will hold visitation on Wednesday January 22, 2020 from 4PM-6PM at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines, NC.
