Dorothy Mae Morgan Williams, age 83, was united with our Lord on Sunday morning, August 13, 2023, at First Health Hospice. A native of Moore County, Dorothy was born on August 23, 1939. The daughter of the late Azra and Annie Williamson Morgan.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Wilburn Williams in 2022, of 63 years, their sons Steve Wilburn Williams and William Thomas (Tommy) Williams and their grandson Logan Tilley. Sisters Louise Morgan, Gladys Brown (David), and brothers Floyd Morgan, Lester Morgan (Ruby), Leonard Morgan (Pauline), James Morgan (Jeanette), Joseph Morgan, and Clarence Morgan. As well as her father in-law and mother in-law William Ernest and Amanda Louella Brown Williams and sisters-in-laws Brenda Williams and Kay Morgan, brothers-in-laws Paul Priest and Josh Garner and son in law Ron Sutton.
Dorothy is survived by her children George Wayne (Karen), Linda Sutton, and Brenda Tilley (Chip). Her grandchildren, Stacy Smith Ashworth (David), Janna Williams Kennedy (Matthew), George Weston Williams (Hailie) and Trevor Williams as well as her great-grandchildren Lane Ashworth, Gage Tilley, Lorna Jean Ashworth, Oaklyn Tilley, Hadley Williams, and Morgan Kennedy.
She is also survived by her sisters Pauline Priest, Betty Doris Garner, Beulah Ritter (Richard), Delores Lassiter (Arnold) and sister in-law Barbara Morgan. Brothers Roy Morgan and Kenneth Morgan as well as her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jerry and Shirley Williams and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Dorothy enjoyed playing with all of her brothers and sisters as a child; born the eighth child in a family of fifteen, there was always someone around to spend time with. She was a graduate of Carthage High School, class of 1958. Soon after graduation she married the love of her life, Wilburn, on May 31, 1958.
Together they had five children of their own and soon built a home on their farmland outside of Robbins, NC. Along with helping her husband on their farm, Dorothy worked in textiles, retiring from Carthage Fabrics.
A lifelong shopper, she enjoyed searching for the perfect antique to add to her collection. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling across America and internationally with their friends and family. She also enjoyed making pottery and spending time with her family on vacations. Dorothy was known for her sense of humor and love for life. You could always find her making a joke or trying to lift someone’s spirits. She was an active member of Rock Hill Friends Church and taught Sunday school at Robbins First Wesleyan for many years.
After a life changing brain stem stroke in July 2001, Dorothy’s family stepped in to care of her. Over the last 22 years her entire family devoted their time to her and her recovery. She was able to live a quality life full of travel, often taking long trips to Florida and to the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. She was able to see three of her grandchildren be married and all of her great grandchildren be born. A few years ago, her sister Betty Doris began staying with her during the day in order to allow her husband, Wilburn, to run errands. At home she enjoyed bowling on her tablet with her daughter Brenda, watching Duke Basketball and singing familiar hymns. Dorothy lived longer than any doctor expected. The family is thankful to God for the many years He gave them with their mother, grandmother, and sister.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Kennedy Funeral Home from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Rock Hill Friends Church at two o’clock in the afternoon. Pastors David Roudabush, Tom Powers and Cameron Dockery will officiate the service. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.
