Elaine Schwanger, age 65 passed away at the home of her son in Hickory on Friday.

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Monday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Donnie Gillis. 

Elaine Chilton Schwanger, loving wife and mother, 65, of Aberdeen passed away surrounded by family at her sons home on October 5th after battling a long illness.

Born on December 30, 1952 in St. Louis, MO. Elaine worked her way through college after raising three sons and two step sons. She graduated with Phi Theta Kappa honors in accounting. Elaine was a published poet with a passion for music she passed on to her sons. She was a long-time employee of Atex Technologies in Pinebluff. Elaine always said her greatest accomplishment was her family and her grandbabies were her heart.

Mrs. Schwanger is survived by her husband of 27 years, Toby Schwanger of Aberdeen; three children: Butch Woodcock of Newton (Cam Woodcock), Brian Woodcock of Hildebran (Danielle Fouquet-Woodcock), David Woodcock of Newton (Atsuko Woodcock); two step children: T.J. Schwanger of Wilmington, Jeremy Schwanger of West End (Amber Schwanger); and five grandchildren: Josh, Allie, Arabella, Christina and Diora; two sisters: Paula Losito of St. Louis (Tom Losito) and Karen Wolpers of Moscow Mills (Keith “Wholps” Wolpers). Elaine was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 4:00 pm at Powell Funeral Home, 160 E New Hampshire Ave., Southern Pines, NC 28387.
