Elwood Earl Kennedy, Sr., age 86, of Aberdeen, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, surrounded by his loving family.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Cox Memorial Funeral Home from 10 until 11.

A  private Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Elwood was born in Duplin County on November 2, 1934 to the late Thomas and Bessie Horne Kennedy. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by sister, Mattie Bostic and brother, Barry Kennedy. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with over 27 years of service also spending three tours in Vietnam. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosa Miller Kennedy; children, Debra Kay Berger , Lauretta “Dee” Davis (Robert), Diana Kennedy, Elwood E. Kennedy, Jr., Wanda Gail Currie (Gerald) all of Aberdeen and David Duane Kennedy (Maria) of Texas; sister, Mavis Kennedy; brother Elmo Gerald Kennedy; ten grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren.
