Obituary Ernest Lane Carte

Ernest Lane Carter, retired sheriff of Moore County, born July 25, 1957, passed away on the morning of Thursday, May 14, 2020. Lane served as Elder at Cypress Springs Presbyterian Church and was a life-long Master Mason and Shriner. Lane was a dedicated public servant, husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend. Anyone who had the good fortune to spend time with Lane was left better for it.

Lane is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee and Nancy Lane Carter, and his sister, Susan Sowder. He leaves behind his wife, Anita Cameron Carter; daughter, Dana Carter Hendrick (Heath Hendrick); sons, Brent (Sara Carter), Seth; and Ethan Carter; godson, Brock Holder (London Holder); eight grandchildren; siblings, Marsha Williams, Cindy Bullock and, Tim Carter (Melody Carter); a host of nieces and nephews; and countless others whose lives he touched.

The family appreciates the compassion and well-wishes of the community during this time of loss. Considering current social-distancing protocols, a public viewing will be held at Cypress Springs Presbyterian Church from Noon-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, followed by a private family service at 3:00 p.m. The service will also be live-streamed  https://livestream.com/accounts/12247331/events/9132848 Following the service, a public graveside ceremony will be held with full law-enforcement honors.
