obituary for George David Anderson, Jr.

George David Anderson, Jr, died Tuesday July 20, 2020 at his home In Pinehurst surrounded by his three daughters, Jo Ellen Todd, Pamela Leigh Anderson, and Julie Lynn Anderson. He was born on December 17, 1935 in Fort Valley, Georgia to George and Ethel Anderson. After the family moved to Moore County he attended Aberdeen High School where he met his late wife Carolyn Bennett Anderson. He married Carolyn in 1957, and they settled in Southern Pines in 1961.

A Carolina Tar Heel through and through he attended UNC Chapel Hill for both undergraduate, dental school, and was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He subsequently established a successful Orthodontics practice in Pinehurst. After retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

He was a member of the Southern Pines Elk’s Club where he was a frequent golfer in his younger years, and an avid card player, which he played until his health no longer allowed. He was a long time member of Emanuel Episcopal Church where he once led bible studies and served on the vestry.

George is survived by his daughters, brother, Howard Anderson, and grandchildren Ashton Anderson, Jordan Taylor Todd, and Morgan Ann Todd.

A funeral service will be conducted 10 AM Friday, July 24, 2020 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Thursday evening at Boles Funeral Home. Burial services will be private. The family is observing all social distancing guidelines and is asking all attendees to wear masks and also follow social distancing guidelines. Due to these guidelines, the family understands that all that would like to attend may be unable, so cards and online condolences are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church 350 E Massachusetts Ave, Southern Pines, NC 28387.

Services have been entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
