Harold Christian Luppens passed away November 23, 2019 at The Coventry in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Harold was born August 6, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Herman George Luppens and Lillie Antoni Winter Luppens. He graduated from Abraham Clark HS, Roselle, NJ in 1941 and was drafted in February of 1943. He served as a member of the 8th Army, 356th Fighter Group, 361st Fighter Squadron in Martlesham Heath, UK until October of 1945. He went to work for Ohio Bell in 1946 and was married to Mary Jean Ward in 1948. They had three children. After assignments in Toledo, Columbus and Cleveland Ohio, Harold retired after 36 years with Ohio Bell in August of 1982. Harold and Jean moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Seven Lakes, NC in 1997 and then to St. Joseph of the Pines, Pine Knoll, Southern Pines in February, 2007. Harold moved to The Coventry in August of 2016.
Harold was preceded in death by his brother Maximilian Frederick Luppens, his sister Eleanore Mae Middaugh, his wife, Mary Jean Ward and his son Marc Stephan Luppens.
Harold is survived by sons John Christian Luppens and Scott Joseph Luppens; daughters-in–law Marsha Ann Blair Luppens and Ellen Abrams Luppens; grandchildren Paul Michael Luppens, Elise Luppens and Kirstin Clara Luppens Raney and husband Christopher Raney; great grandchildren Brandon T. Luppens, Sydney M. Luppens and Maxwell, M. Raney; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph of the Pines, Pine Knoll Chapel December 13, 2019 at 2 pm followed by internment in the St. Anthony Columbarium. A reception will be held at Pine Knoll following internment.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Health Clara McLean House. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation towards the St. Joseph of the Pines staff, Aegis staff, and the FirstHealth Hospice staff involved in Harold’s care these past years.
