Jack Lewis Bowman, 91 of Southern Pines, NC left this earthly home and entered God’s glory on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 while at home with his wife Doris Mayo Bowman.

Jack was born in Graham, NC on June 30, 1927. He served in the US Army stationed in Germany at the end of World War II. Jack was married to Jean Lindsey for fifty-eight years and had three daughters and a son who died shortly after birth.

Jack was a graduate from Elon College near Burlington where he received his Associate’s degree. He supported his family by employment with the NC State Highway Commission. His work took him from Burlington to Greensboro to Southern Pines where he eventually retired in the mid 70’s.

Jack began a second career with Carolina Power and Light and moved throughout the state until his retirement in the mid 90s. Jack was a member of the Kiwanis and Lion’s Club organizations in Southern Pines, Asheville and Oxford, NC. He also was a deacon and choir member in the churches where he lived. He moved back to Southern Pines after his retirement.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, James S. Bowman and Bertha P. Bowman; his wife, Jean Lindsey Bowman; his brothers, James S. Bowman, Jr. and John A. Bowman and Teresa Miller, his step-daughter.

Surviving are his sister Julia Reaves and his brother Bill Bowman; his children, Donna Burgess (Don), Deborah Richardson (Larry) and Denise Bowman; his four grandsons, Keith Richardson (Stacey), Eric Richardson (Melissa), Stuart Richardson (Sandy) and Benjamin Richardson (Ashley); and eight great-grandchildren.

The family is receiving friends at Boles Funeral Home, Southern Pines on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. 

A funeral to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Southern Pines on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 3:00pm with Dr. David Helms officiating. Interment will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
