James Peter Austgen, 73 of Seven Lakes, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 4th 2020 at his residence. 

A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am with the Rev. John Forbes officiating.

Mr. Austgen was born September 30, 1946 in Hammond, Indiana.  He served during the Vietnam War in the US Army.  He later attended Purdue University where he earned his master’s degree. He worked for Mobile Oil as a marketing executive for 23 years and later as the owner of Lilly & Martin Produce in Raleigh. He also served as past president of the Drifters Golf Group. He retired in 2000 spending time in Seven Lakes and Hawaii. 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane Austgen of Kailua, Hawaii: A daughter, Amy (Ryan) Arfman; and granddaughter, Maya of Kailua, Hawaii; Also his siblings, Pete (Priscilla), Terry and (Peggy), and Mary (Randy) all of Indiana.   

He was preceded in death by a son, David Austgen.
