Joel Gray Stancil, 83, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2019  at Roseland United Methodist Church, with Reverend Janet Balasko and Reverend Nancy Willard officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Joel was a native of Moore County and a graduate of Aberdeen High School.  He served his country in the United States Army. He owned and operated Stancil and Son Heating and Air Conditioning for 50 years.  Joel and his wife Nycie were active in the Longleaf Square Dance and The Yellow Rockers organizations. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and traveling.  As a member at Roseland United Methodist, he was involved in many construction projects. He was in ministry with Boy Scout Troop 68 and served on the Eagle Scout Board. He was also an avid fan of Duke basketball.  Joel was a son of the late Clifton and Gertrude Woodard Stancil and was preceded in death by his wife, of 55 years: Nycie Jon; sister: Mary Willie Babson, brother: James Clifton Stancil.

Joel is survived by daughters: Mary Stancil Hartsell and husband Lloyd, Jean Stancil Frye and husband Gerald; son: James Stancil all of Roseland:  grandchildren: Jessica Hartsell, Samantha Mack and husband Justin, Harrisen Frye, and Evanne Frye; great grandchildren: Madelyn, Aiden; and his father’s wife Sarah Stancil. He will also be missed by his special friend Peggy Brixey and her family.

The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Powell Funeral Home in Southern Pines.
