Joseph Michael Cardelle, age 83 of Foxfire Village, NC passed away on January 4th, 2019 in Pinehurst, NC. Joe was born in Stamford, CT to the late Joseph and Rose Cardelle. In 1958 he married the former Lucille Salvatore of New Haven, CT and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends. Joe attended Groton, CT public schools and went on to follow his passion in teaching, earning his BS degree in education from Southern Connecticut State University and then his masters degree and 6th year degree in education from University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.

Joe started his teaching career at Uncas-On-Thames school in Norwich, CT and then taught in the Ledyard, CT public school system. He furthered his career in education administration when he became the principal of the Voluntown, CT elementary school in that town. Joe then became the principal of the Juliet Long School in Gales Ferry, CT.

In 1971 he was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Ledyard School system for 16 years and in 1987 held the same position in the Groton, CT school system.
Joe was an active member in many Connecticut and National educational associations as a public school educator and administrator. Joe retired after a successful 33 year career in education and he and his wife Lucille moved to Foxfire Village, NC in 1996, where as an avid golfer, he could pursue his other passion in life.

While at UCONN, Joe was captain of the golf team. He was a member of Shennecossett Golf Club in Groton, CT and Foxfire Golf and Resort in NC. Joe was past president of the Men’s Golf Association at Foxfire Golf and Resort.

Joe was also a long time member of the Appearance Commission in the town of Foxfire.
He is survived by his wife Lucille, his four sons; Joe of Plymouth, MA, David of Cohasset, MA, Michael of Duxbury, MA and Steven of Gales Ferry, CT. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Jessica Hemme, Cassandra Cardelle, Nick Cardelle and Michael Cardelle, along with 3 grandchildren, Amani, Briella and Casen. He is also survived by so many good friends.

In addition to his parents, Joseph and Rose Cardelle, he was predeceased in death by his brother, Don Cardelle of Lowell, MA.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 7th at Boles Funeral Home, 35 Parker Lane, Pinehurst, NC at 11:00 AM. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your local Hospice
