obituary Kenneth Loyd Stocum

Kenneth Loyd Stocum, 65, of Aberdeen, passed suddenly at his home on Saturday June 27th.

Ken was born September 30th, 1954 to the late Keith and Patricia Stocum.  He was raised on a family farm in Forestville NY until he was a teenager. The family then moved back to NC where he had gone to Union Pines High School.  As a young man, Ken (“Butch” to his kin) excelled in sports, making All Conference on the football field.  He grew up working on the farm and kept that hard working, farmer life. After high school, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  After his honorable discharge, Ken returned to Moore county and got back to work. Soon after he met Teresa and they had their 3 children.  Naturally, growing all those vegetables, Ken became handy at preparing the food too. When his son was playing sports in grade school, Ken would cook for the football team every Friday night.  He ran the Southern Pines Farmers’ Market for many years, where he took in teens to help work.  Ken taught them responsibility, how to do their chores and to be proud of the work they did.  He later owned a demolition company where he met his wife Tiffany.  He was a hustler who reveled in working and being busy, but his real love, was his family.

Ken was the husband of Tiffany Alford Stocum.  He was the father of Sarah Stocum Leviner, husband Kevin, Candace Stocum Hylton, husband Sam, Jacob Stocum, wife Erin, and step father to Bret and Jordan Gault.  He is survived by his 6 grandchildren:  Kenneth Riley Leviner, Lily Leviner, Faith Leviner, Eli and Luke Hylton and Landon Stocum.  Ken was the brother of Joy Powers (Lamar), Karen West (Dennis), Cheryl Ross (the late Tom), Keith Stocum (Cindy) and the late Patricia Morlock (Hal).

A celebration of his life will be held at the family home, 315 Major Rd. Carthage on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
