Larry Franklin Smith, age 78, of Vass, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 4:00 pm at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with Rev. James Estes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 3 until 4. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Larry was born in Hoke County on May 5, 1945 to the late James Franklin Smith and Agnes Marks Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Edwards, brothers, J.C., Robert “Bob” and Charlie.
Larry loved racing, he was an avid #3 Dale Earnhardt fan. There was never a race car engine he couldn’t repair. He was a faithful and active member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church. He loved all of his nieces and nephews as well as all the community kids. Larry will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda Brooks Smith; a special furry friend, Riki; sisters, Nellie Hollingsworth (Doug) of Eastover, Mary Ruth Welch of Florida, twin brother, Harry Smith (Cheryl) of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
