Lucille Johnson Howard passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018. She was born May 12, 1921, in Hill City, MN to Oscar and Thora Johnson. During the WWII years, she worked for Goodyear Synthetic Rubber in Torrance, CA. In 1945 she married Robert Wallace Howard who was an Ensign in the Navy stationed in San Diego, CA and came to Southern Pines, NC where they owned and operated Howard’s Bakery for seventeen years.

In 1962, Mrs. Howard worked as office manager with her husband who was a Nationwide insurance agent for 25 years. They were charter members of Our Saviour Lutheran Church which was organized in 1962.

Mrs. Howard was the much loved Mom to her six children and Aunt Lu to a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years and grandson Bryan Howard. She is survived by four sons, David and wife Fonda of Asheville, NC; Darrell and wife Fran of Southern Pines, NC; Mark and wife Ann of Lake Bolac, Victoria, Australia; Steven and wife Barbara of Durham, NC; two daughters Janet and husband Mike Cleary of Tumbling Shoals, AR; and Dianne and husband David Peeples of Bainbridge Island,WA; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at Our Saviour Lutheran Church with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
